The CDDB is a database containing information about compact discs, accessible worldwide from a network of continuously updated servers.
Track titles and other information are not stored on compact discs, so it is impossible for a CD player or computer to know this information alone.
By comparing unique characteristics of the CD with the records in the CDDB, programs such as NetCD can display information about the disc that other users have previously submitted to the database.
The CDDB was designed by Ti Kan and Steve Scherf and is an Internet enterprise of Escient, Inc. For more information about this great service, visit the CDDB web site by clicking the CDDB logo on the left.
